SY-CON PRESENTS: BRICKS ROCK 2019 (RECAP)

I LUG NY members had an amazing time this past Saturday and Sunday at Sy-Con Presents: Bricks Rock at the Syosset Public Library in Syosset, NY. Bricks Rock was an all ages, two day LEGO Fan Festival that over 3,500 people enjoyed.

The library held LEGO themed activities throughout both days. There were screenings of The LEGO Movie on Saturday and The LEGO Batman Movie on Sunday. Located in the Childrens Room was a Duplo area for young builders. The Story Room housed a larger brick area for the youngest of builders.

I LUG NY member Keith designed and built a model of the Syosset Library greeted visitors once they entered the library.

Located on the Main Level of the library, I LUG NY members displayed a 40 square foot Great Ball Contraption. This layout of GBC modules transfixed guests, both young and young at heart alike as 200 LEGO balls traveled throughout a staggering 52 GBC modules! One ball took an average time of 2 minutes to travel through the GBC loop. 5 I LUG NY members contributed models to this display, spearheaded by I LUG NY member Lawrie. There are links to instructions on how to build some of the modules seen in the video. You can also access these instructions at:https://lawriege.com/resources/instructions/

Also on the Main Level of the library, I LUG NY members organized Speed Build Competitions. Young builders in attendance signed up to participate in this challenge throughout the weekend. They raced to build seasonal Brickheadz sets with the three fastest builders in each heat receiving a LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigure blind bag. There were always more people who wanted to take part in this event than we had room for but the good news was that a new heat would begin shortly after to accommodate as many young builders as possible.

Large mosaics greeted attendees once they walked down to the lower level which held several other LEGO activities.

I LUG NY supplied two rooms of displays in the Lower Level of the library. A 120 square foot town occupied one meeting room complete with trains, monorail, a roller coaster, vehicles, modular buildings, a bridge over a body of water along with minifigures to populate the scene. The guests were tasked with locating six Collectible Minifigures in a Seek and Find Challenge.

I LUG NY members ran a Free Build area in a meeting room that let LEGO fans create a cityscape out of thousands of green, red and blue 2×4 bricks. This room was jam packed throughout the weekend.

The local news station, News12 Long Island stopped by and covered the event as well.
