Nearly every month LLDC (www.LegoLandDiscoveryCenter.com) has an AFOL night (Adult Fans Of LEGO, 18+) who reminisce about and/or actively enjoy LEGO. And ILUGNY, a LEGO User Group in the tri-state area, has members who actively enjoy LEGO and who attend these events to meet like-talented adults to share our passion and to participate in the activities. NOTE: Adults NOT bringing child to LLDC are only allowed to go during an Adult Night, which is good because that’s when it’s an adult-friendly atmosphere!
This event was August’s music-themed event… “Rock Star” Adult Night.
I’ve been to over a dozen of these events and usually find something different every time and plenty of new people in attendance. I’ve met adults who plan to bring their kids, to grandparents, to those who still have an appreciation after their teen years, as well as both guys and girls in roughly equal numbers. LEGO offers something for everyone apparently.
I (BG3D) was the only member from our LUG to attend, but still had a good time at this event as there were a decent amount of people in attendance. Many people participated in all of the activities at LLDC, including the final event, the Speed Building Challenge, which focused on a “Music” theme!
MINILAND was still its’ basic self, so I skipped pictures, but snapped a few of the crowd…
Special Events this month:
• Life-Sized Wax Celebrity Appearances – As seen at the beginning of this post. Wax figures courtesy of Madame Tussauds New York, owned by the same company that owns LEGOLAND Theme Parks.
• Music Trivia Challenge – I skipped this event.
• Karaoke – I spared everyone some misery, but this was a big hit. There was Group, Solo, DJ, and Mixed Karaoke and Dancing styles throughout the night!
• Group & Solo & Club Line Dancing (Not Country) – I opted out so I could grab pics, otherwise I would have hit the groove!
Build Contest this month:
But always the most fun part of the night, for myself at least, was the final build in which most of us participated in, along with many other attendees. Again, the Speed Building Challenge this time focused on the “Music” theme! The variety of models were interesting this time around since it’s a broad theme.
Honorable Mention: Goes to the Music Notes Line and Message In The White Bottle.
Winners: 1st place was a new-comer who built a Piano and got the Guitar Model, followed by my Rolling Stones Logo for which I picked the Record Player Relic Model, and the new-comer’s friends’ Banjo for which he got the MOOG Keyboard Model.
Everyone had a great night, except maybe for this Soft Brick kid…
Here’s more new models by Master Model Builder Veronica Watson…
Thanks for reading, and stop by LLDC at the next AFOL night (Thu, Oct 1st) between 7pm-8pm for a “Halloween” event and introduce yourself at our ILUGNY table or to a member hopefully wearing an ILUGNY shirt/badge. And our members will try to do the same! Also be sure to check out LLDC’s website for details a few days before the event starts so you can plan to participate in all events.
Rock On!
