Nearly every month LLDC (www.LegoLandDiscoveryCenter.com) has an AFOL night (Adult Fans Of LEGO, 18+) who reminisce about and/or actively enjoy LEGO. And ILUGNY, a LEGO User Group in the tri-state area, has members who actively enjoy LEGO and who attend these events to meet like-talented adults to share our passion and to participate in the activities. NOTE: Adults NOT bringing child to LLDC are only allowed to go during an Adult Night, which is good because that’s when it’s an adult-friendly atmosphere!
This month we report on May’s Star Trek themed event… “Brick Trek” Adult Night.
I’ve been to over a dozen of these events and usually find something different every time and plenty of new people in attendance. I’ve met adults who plan to bring their kids, to grandparents, to those who still have an appreciation after their teen years, as well as both guys and girls in roughly equal numbers. LEGO offers something for everyone apparently.
JustJon, Xavier, and I (BG3D) had a good time at this event as there were a decent amount of people in attendance. Many people participated in all of the activities at LLDC, including the final event, the Speed Building Challenge, which focused on a “Star Trek” theme!
MINILAND was still its’ basic self, so I skipped pictures, but there was something new…
CITY BUILDER, which replaced the Ninjago laser challenge room…
And then there was the usual beer vendor…
Special Events this month:
• Brick Trek Trivia Challenge – I missed this event.
• Android Bingo – Many people participated in multiple games, including ILUGNY members. Hosted, when I played, by the great Anthony and his ever-expanding name badge.
• Costume Contest – A few of us dressed up in non-traditional outfits, including a group of fans with ’80s/Star Trek mash-up costumes you’ll see later.
• Data’s Fear Factor – This was a surprise! Ever wanted to eat candy-coated insects? Well I did! At least it wasn’t sans candy like in Fear Factor.
From 6 contestants (eating chocolate-covered crickets), to 4 sans myself (eating chocolate-covered ants), to 2 (eating toffee-covered mill-worms)…
…and then there was 1, who won the Data model…
