LEGOLAND DISCOVERY CENTER WESTCHESTER AFOL NIGHT (2015/02/05)

Nearly every month LLDC (www.LegoLandDiscoveryCenter.com) has an AFOL night (Adult Fans Of LEGO, 18+) who reminisce about and/or actively enjoy LEGO.  And ILUGNY, a LEGO User Group in the tri-state area, has members who actively enjoy LEGO and who attend these events to meet like-talented adults to share our passion and to participate in the activities.  NOTE: Adults NOT bringing child to LLDC are only allowed to go during an Adult Night, which is good because that’s when it’s an adult-friendly atmosphere!

This month we report on February’s Masquerade Mardi Gras themed event…

I’ve been to over a dozen of these events and usually find something different every time and plenty of new people in attendance.  I’ve met adults who plan to bring their kids, to grandparents, to those who still have an appreciation after their teen years, as well as both guys and girls in roughly equal numbers.  LEGO offers something for everyone apparently.

JustJon, and I (BG3D) had a good time at this event as there were a lot of people in attendance.  Many people participated in all of the activities at LLDC, including the final event, the Speed Building Challenge, which focused on a “Mardis Gras or New Orleans Theme“!  And attendees got beads to wear.

MINILAND was back to its’ basic self this time around, so I skipped pictures.

Special Events this month:

• Bead Toss – Non-LUG members participated and winners got 2 free tickets to an upcoming AFOL night.

• Mardi Gras Scavenger Hunt – Not sure if this event happened.

• Masquerade Costume Contest – 2 newcomers won this contest for their matching costumes and got 2 free tickets to an upcoming AFOL night.

Build Contest this month:

But always the most fun part of the night, for myself at least, was the final build in which JustJon, and I participated in, along with many other attendees.  Again, the Speed Building Challenge this time focused on any “Mardis Gras or New Orleans Theme”!

LLDC’s Retail Store also had a couple of new surprises:

• Pick-A-Brick (PAB) Wall has changed.  $10 lets you fill a small ice cream cup (including hole in cup cover) with a mix of LLDC’s customary variety of brick sizes in identical colors, plus a mix-in of new loose set parts.
• 30% off many older and some new sets!  Does not stack with LLDC membership.
• Large selection of LED Key Characters.
