LEGOLAND DISCOVERY CENTER WESTCHESTER AFOL NIGHT (2014/12/04)

LEGOLAND DISCOVERY CENTER WESTCHESTER AFOL NIGHT (2014/12/04)

Nearly every month LLDC (www.LegoLandDiscoveryCenter.com) has an AFOL night (Adult Fans Of LEGO, 18+) who reminisce about and/or actively enjoy LEGO.  And ILUGNY, a LEGO User Group in the tri-state area, has members who actively enjoy LEGO and who attend these events to meet like-talented adults to share our passion and to participate in the activities.  NOTE: Adults NOT bringing child to LLDC are only allowed to go during an Adult Night, which is good because that’s when it’s an adult-friendly atmosphere!

This month we report on December’s Winter Holiday-themed “Bricktacular Night” event…

I’ve been to about a dozen of these events and usually find something different every time and plenty of people in attendance.  I’ve met adults who plan to bring their kids, to grandparents, to those who still have an appreciation after their teen years, as well as both guys and girls in roughly equal numbers.  LEGO offers something for everyone apparently.

LegoLand Discovery Center WestchesterLEGO9V, Marwan, MikeB, and I (BG3D) had a good time at this event as there were a lot of people in attendance.  Again there was no instructional build session (I suspect there will be no more).  Many people participated in the final event, the Speed Building Challenge, which focused on any “Holiday Theme“!

This month’s Build Contest:

But always the most fun part of the night, for myself at least, was the final build in which LEGO9V, MikeB, and I participated in, along with many other visitors.  Again, the Speed Building Challenge this time focused on any “Holiday Theme”!  This time I took 1st place with my Rudolph Reindeer, and MikeB took 2nd place with his life-sized Christmas Wreath, followed by a Santa Claus.

The last surprise was a free LLDC Happy Holidays Red DUPLO brick displaying Elf and Teddy Bear for LLDC Annual Pass members who received it before others were eligible on the following weekend.

Thanks for reading and stop by LLDC at the next AFOL night (Thu, Feb 5th) between 7pm-7:30pm and introduce yourself at our ILUGNY table or to a member wearing an ILUGNY shirt.  And our members will try to do the same!  Also be sure to check out LLDC’s website for details a few days before the event starts so you can plan to participate in all events.
Have a great New Year!
