Nearly every month LLDC (www.LegoLandDiscoveryCenter.com) has an AFOL night (Adult Fans Of LEGO, 18+) who reminisce about and/or actively enjoy LEGO. And ILUGNY, a LEGO User Group in the tri-state area, has members who actively enjoy LEGO and who attend these events to meet like-talented adults to share our passion and to participate in the activities. NOTE: Adults NOT bringing child to LLDC are only allowed to go during an Adult Night, which is good because that’s when it’s an adult-friendly atmosphere!
This month we report on November’s Dr. Who-themed event…
I’ve been to about a dozen of these events and usually find something different every time and plenty of people in attendance. I’ve met adults who plan to bring their kids, to grandparents, to those who still have an appreciation after their teen years, as well as both guys and girls in roughly equal numbers. LEGO offers something for everyone apparently.
Bert, Marwan, MikeB, and I (BG3D) had a good time at this event as there were a lot of people in attendance. However, there was no instructional build session. Many people participated in the final event, the Speed Building Challenge, which focused on “Time Travel”!
MINILAND had some unique models this time that weren’t part of this month’s theme:
• Dr. Who: An Unearthly Child – Some of us watched the first Dr. Who episode, in black and white, in their 4D theater, but without the 3rd or 4th D.
• Dr. Who Trivia.
• Candy Corn Race.
• The Costume Contest didn’t happen this time.
