Nearly every month LLDC (www.LegoLandDiscoveryCenter.com) has an AFOL night (Adult Fans Of LEGO, 18+) who reminisce about and/or actively enjoy LEGO. And ILUGNY, a LEGO User Group in the tri-state area, has members who actively enjoy LEGO and who attend these events to meet like-talented adults to share our passion and to participate in the activities. NOTE: Adults NOT bringing child to LLDC are only allowed to go during an Adult Night, which is good because that’s when it’s an adult-friendly atmosphere!
This month we report on October’s Halloween-themed event…
I’ve been to about a dozen of these events and usually find something different every time and plenty of people in attendance. I’ve met adults who plan to bring their kids, to grandparents, to those who still have an appreciation after their teen years, as well as both guys and girls in roughly equal numbers. LEGO offers something for everyone apparently.
JustJon, Marwan, Eggsavior, and myself (BG3D) had a good time at this event, but it had a different feel than other events as there was no instructional build session and less people stuck around for the final build competition, surprisingly, as I always look forward to the speed challenge and see what cool builds others create!
• Apple-bobbing was the first event which others participated in and enjoyed their apples when finished.
• Mummy Build Race was the second event which JustJon, Eggsavior, and I participated in and had fun with. Jon did an excellent job dressing me as a mummy, but it only made runner-up! This event was also captured in another article: http://www.coca-colacompany.com/stories/legos-for-adults-grown-ups-embrace-the-plastic-bricks-for-work-and-play#TCCC
• If the Candy Corn Relay Race took place, I missed it, but it was setup by the theatre.
• If there was a Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt in MINILAND, I didn’t notice that one either as I walked through MINILAND quickly this time.
• The Costume Contest almost didn’t happen until JustJon said something just before the end of the event. Eggsavior and I were the only visitors in costume, and my werewolf costume took the win for 2 tickets to a future AFOL Night.
