On Saturday January 18th, I LUG NY members conducted the “Bendel Speedway,” a sold-out build event. Kids and their parents were able to build custom racing vehicles and compete for prizes. There were two two-hour sessions.
The participants built a variety of wheeled vehicles in all shapes and sizes. It was a great expression of creativity. The vehicles were created entirely from scratch from large bins of miscellaneous bricks.
When everyone had finished their vehicle, it was time to gather around the race track and compete in an elimination tournament. Four cars were raced at a time. The slowest car was eliminated from each race and replaced with another. The top three cars won small prizes.
LUG members got in on the action and built cars as well.
The event was well-received by participants. After cleaning up, we held our monthly meeting at the museum and did a parts draft of 30120 Furry Creatures.
We also got to look at more of Blake’s M-Tron project, including a beautiful monorail train.
