Last night I LUG NY made its first official appearance at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Yonkers, NY during its monthly “No-Kids Night.” October was Star Wars-themed. A dozen members of the LUG showed up, and we got to meet other AFOLs in the area who made it to the event. Several business cards were handed out and we may have even recruited a new member or two.

We had a display table with Star Wars MOCs by Bill M, Brett, Cody, Mike, and Rick. Most of the custom models were publicly displayed for the first time!

Attendees were able to browse the Discovery Center and participate in many of its rides and attractions., including the LEGO® Legends of Chima™ 4D Movie Experience, MINILAND®, the Kingdom Quest Laser Ride, and a mini Snowspeeder building class with Xavier. The highlight of the evening was the 15-minute speed build competition where around 20 AFOLs attempted to build the best starfighter. Members of the local 501st chapter helped David judge the entries and select the winners. Blake and Brett got honorable mentions for their ships. Blake built a SHIP ( AFOL lingo for a Significantly Huge Investment in Parts, a very large LEGO creation), and Brett built a “Last Starfighter” ship complete with Italian color scheme.
